Tips for Advising

The Pre-Health Student Resource Center is a specialized career center, representing a partnership between the University of Minnesota’s undergraduate colleges and the programs within the University’s Academic Health Center, that helps University undergraduate students, high school students, and adult learners explore health career options, build effective skills and qualities for career development, and prepare for admission into health professional programs.

Have an eager student gunning to be a medical doctor? Introduce them to our Future Physician Series (AHS 1600, 1601, 1602). Are you talking to a student who feels pre-health is an intriguing area but they can’t settle on a specific program?  Tell them about our Orientation to Health Careers course (AHS 1101 or 1102). Explore the many credit courses the Pre-Health Student Resource Center offers.

How to refer students to the Pre-Health Student Resource Center:

Students can access the Pre-Health Student Resource Center in a few ways.

  • Drop-In Advising: Students can drop into our office in 2-565 Moos Tower between 9 a.m. - 4 p.m., Monday through Friday and speak with Jenna, our PHSRC Student Services Specialist. Jenna is able to assist students with many of their questions during those drop in hours. If the student has a need for a more personalized appointment, Jenna can help set that up for them.
  • Appointments with PHSRC Career Counselors: Students can make an appointment to meet 1-on-1 with a career counselor by filling out a Health Program Action Plan, or completing an online workshop (and accompanying work product, e.g. a personal statement draft).
