Advising Structure
Students in Carlson are assigned one academic advisor who works with them from their first semester through graduation.
Carlson International Experience
The Carlson Global Institute's Education Abroad programs are here to help you fulfill your International Experience. The primary goals of the International Experience are:
- To motivate students to become more globally competent
- To encourage mutual understanding, communication, and collaboration of Carlson School students, staff, and faculty with colleagues abroad
- To support the development of students as authentic global business leaders
We have business focused programming available for all majors and degree plans. As you begin to think about your International Experience we encourage you to see an Education Abroad Advisor in the Carlson Global Institute. We have virtual advising hours by appointment and look forward to helping you explore your study abroad goals and options!
Transfer Information
Transferring into Carlson School of Management is very competitive. Students should be mindful of the information sessions, requirements, prerequisites, credit and GPA minimums, and application deadlines.

Referring Students
Academic Advising
For questions about programs for undergraduate students in other U of M colleges, or to access permission numbers for Carlson courses, students can:
- Call the Carlson Undergraduate Program Office at 612-624-3313 or
- Stop by Hanson Hall 2-190. During the school year*, drop-in advising is available:
- 9 :00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday
- 12:30 - 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday

*Due to new student orientation, limited drop-in advising is available during June, July, and August. If you are planning to visit during this time, please call 612-624-3313 to confirm that someone will be available to meet with you.
Carlson Global Institute Advising
Our education abroad advisors are available for advising appointments and are here to support you. Appointments are available on Zoom and in-person in the Carlson Global Institute, CSOM 2-210.
