Advising in This College
Admission to each of the College of Design's undergraduate degree programs requires a competitive admission application and review, with the exception of Retail and Consumer Studies and Landscape Architecture.
Advising Structure
Students are assigned a professional academic advisor who works with them from orientation to graduation. In certain majors, students will be assigned a faculty advisor in addition to their professional academic advisor. The primary role of the faculty advisor is to advise students on their degree-required internship.
Portfolio Review
Students in the following majors are admitted as pre-major students. Pre-architecture, pre-apparel, pre-graphic, pre-interior and pre-product majors. Students present their portfolios and/or apply to their major after completing a series of foundation courses in order to transition into full major status.
Acceptance into full major status is a necessary prerequisite in order to continue taking classes within the major. Students who do not pass portfolio review on their first attempt have the opportunity to present at one subsequent portfolio review. Connections with faculty to review and improve their portfolio are offered and encouraged.
