Leveling Up - Career Progression and Embracing Change

The Advising Community of Practice (ACP) is a collaborative space for advisors and student support professionals to build community, share knowledge, and work together. Members connect around shared interests, explore common challenges, and co-create strategies that enhance advising and student support across the University. This gathering is designed for advisors and student support professionals.

Topic: Career Progression and Embracing Change — As student services staff, we are facing a shifting landscape in higher education, from technological advancement to federal and state policy change. At the same time, we are often caught up in the daily realities of student service work and may lack the bandwidth to equip ourselves to navigate these changes as professionals. AAN’s Advising Community of Practice working group wants to provide a space for academic advisors and student support staff to collaborate and ideate around ways to invest in their growth as individuals and professionals, both here at the U and outside of campus boundaries.

Join us for a panel discussion with UMN professionals who have navigated professional development and changes in employment. Some panelists have held different roles in different colleges, others have spent a significant time at the UMN and grown in seniority/responsibilities, and there will be individuals who have transitioned from higher ed to corporate and back, plus a career advisor who will highlight transferable skills and how to market oneself in the current climate.

Please RSVP by Friday, October 16th, 2026.
