Advising in This College

Admission to each of the College of Design's undergraduate degree programs requires a competitive admission application and review.

Advising Structure

All CDes students are assigned a professional academic advisor that work with them from orientation to graduation.

During the fourth or fifth term in the program (depending on the degree program), the students will be assigned a faculty advisor in addition to your professional academic adviser. The faculty member will serve as the student's internship adviser and be a sounding board for their ideas about how to continue on in your field of choice. For interior design, the faculty adviser will also review your study abroad plans as they relate to your major.

Portfolio Review

Students in the pre-apparel, pre-graphic, and pre-interior majors present their portfolios after completing a series of foundation courses. Each major will have a faculty-led information session about Portfolio Review prior to the review date.

Passing Portfolio Review is a necessary prerequisite for registering for post-Portfolio Review courses. Students who do not pass Portfolio Review on their first attempt have the opportunity to present at one subsequent Portfolio Review after working with faculty to improve their portfolio.
